I can't remember if it was v7 or v6 when we got new mmaps, dbc, etc., so I would suggest re-downloading them. After this point though, unless specifically stated, they should continue to work in future releases.

What exactly is NOT included in the "free" version? Also, if you pay for the "VIP" version, do you get to keep the files and use whenever you want, or is there some kind of validation system that requires online connectivity and authorization?

I believe the VIP version contains more fixes and is much more stable along with fewer crashes. Also in the VIP version there's a new playerbot system that allows you to level, quest(maybe idk), do dungoens and possibly raids with player like bots. The VIP version also contains fake players that can be seen in the who list to make it look like your server is populated. And no there is no, "validation system that requires online connectivity and authorization". All the files on there you can download whenever you wish and keep them and use whenever you wish to.
