I suggest we add we add SSL to the website for added trust and security to bring in more members to the community I think in now day it should be a standard for website the use logins.

It will be taken into consideration, but the downside is that google has to recache all the pages if we change to https

Correct, but it can still harm SEO if the things aren't handled properly with rewrite & redirection etc. Also has to recache every page etc for best results.
