Legion 7.3.5 Trying to set up a private server for testing

Hi, I am trying to set up a Legion private server on my home lab for testing purpose. I am currently playing on Felsong but people are unhappy with the server, mostly due to unsolved bugs and issues pending since years.

I want to help in my spare time by working on some known issues. I had setup a Lich King private server for my friends long ago and that was fun. I am however having issues with Legion. Mainly, the map extractor. Gemini brought me to this forum, I am now registered and have to go through some loops before I can download the repack.

I just wanted to check with the community if some one has been able to replicate what I am trying to do? I will be testing the private server with few close friends and have some fun with it while fixing stuff.

Hi, quick update, I tried compiling data on my windows system. I managed to compile the extractors, however the extractors are unable to read any data.

Getting this error when running mapextractor.exe

Checked ChatGPT and Gemini, it seems I have some data files and a .build.info file missing. Tried downloading the game client from different servers (Felsong, Firestorm, Uwow), tried different launchers but could not find those missing files.

Another update, I am also trying the set up on my Oracle Cloud VM, problem is that the architecture is ARM (Free tier provides 4 vCpu and 24 GB Ram), I am trying to recompile it for ARM architecture, the build has reached around 20% after fixing few C++ scripts, lets hope I can get it to work.

Is it jsut an echo chamber here for someone starting out? I was embarking on this out of curioisty, same Xpac as I prefer to play WOD and well legion had graphcsi updates and a fair amount of QOL, so figured this owuld be my point of ingress. Resource site with no replies is a bit off-putting

The main forum source for Legion repack has requirements of some 10 meaningful posts, you will find many comments just trying to fulfill that requirement

I downloaded and tried running the Legion repack available here from uWow, was able to have the server up and running, got few friends to connect and test it. What I found is that the it requires way too much work to get it running properly. Lot of bugs/issues with quests and zoning. Also, the data available for this repack is very old.

I tried compiling a repack with Ashamancore, was able to compile and update the database for it. But hit a wall with the map data. Ashamancore did not provide database and mapdata, I was able to fix the database but unable to get the mapdata. The mapdata from uWow is a different version from the Ashamancore requirement, I build extractor for Ashamancore but unable to extract data as there is .build.info and few indexes missing from my Legion client. I downloaded client from multiple sources but could not find the missing files.

Right now I am trying to get the SPP v2 repack but unable to complete the verification step on their discord channel.

In short I have spent few weeks working on this a side project. Claude and Gemini help out with lots of issues. I would suggest trying to get your hands on all latest available database/mapdata and work from there.

I think, as it is a "Free" variant, it gets minimal focus, under the auspices of "Outdated core bruh"
I ended up rebuilding the auction house...and it's INANE, myriad of additional requirements. Then kept hitting more and more, nit-pick issues, and blew it off and resubbed to retail. It gets annoying when many advertised "EZ" installation collections of this or that file end up requiring more work than you are comfortable with addressing, based on coding level, forcing you to ask questions that go unanswered or link suggestions that do not apply. I think I will wait for a repack of the 1 of 3 versions of WOW I would like to play on my desktop as my world, and just buy the repack tier required to ensure I have support. I really see no other option since this is now a niche thing with private/personal servers
