Sleeping with or without background noise?

When I head to bed to finally sleep I prefer to be able to lay in bed in complete darkness with nothing turned on and just the sound of maybe a few cars going by at night. I hate to fall asleep when I have the television on or any kind of music on as I find that even if I do I wake a few hours later and struggle to sleep again.

How do you prefer to sleep? Do you prefer to sleep with background noise or nothing?

I hate to have any kind of background noise other than noises that I can not help coming from outside. I am a really light sleeper so having any kind of sound no matter what it is always keeps me awake and leaves me in a bad mood in the morning.

I've tried a white noise machine from amazon. I was more tired in the morning than without it, but I could see why it helps others.

Maybe it's something to try out and see how you adjust to it.

Some people like apps of relaxing noises to drown out thoughts that linger when going to sleep.

I need a fan or it's incredibly difficult to get to sleep. I've been like this for as long as I can remember.

I always sleep listening to a podcast or some sort of audio in the background. It helps me sleep faster.

I can do both, but I have a much easier time trying to sleep with background noises, fans or Tv helps the most.

I can sleep both ways. With background noise I do sleep better I've no idea why lol but I just do

I'm lucky to be one of those people who can sleep anywhere whatever the conditions. Pitch black and silent, broad daylight with the TV on, whatevs. :)

I use a fan for summer and leave the lamp on for winter (I know it's not background noise, but I'm not good with silence or darkness)

The best (from a medical stand) would be to sleep with the bare minimum noises and light: the quiet the ambient, the easy is for your body (skin and eyes) and brain to rest/reduce work payload

however, this is just the "ideal" or the most common way: if you find it easier to relax and feel better when sleping with music and all lights on, then its a viable option...in other words, there is not a better way, just the one you find more suitable for you

I prefer sleeping in the dark, though my room has too much RGB to be totally dark. As for noise, I have an Amazon Echo and I either play Nature Sounds for Sleep or Thunderstorm sounds on loop and set like a 4 hour sleep timer. Sometimes I fall asleep listening to science shows like The Universe but all too often I start actively listening to the shows and don't fall asleep.

I sometimes leave my pc on (prob not good for pc lol) or netflix in background.

I used to have a laptop hooked up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse, acting as a PC. I never turned it off, only putting it to sleep. The laptop definitely didn't last as long as it should have, I'll say that.
Used to use netflix or have some movie on but it ends up keeping me awake. I just use a fan at this point, keeps me nice and cool, and it's background noise.
